BG: Blood Glucose

BSR: Blood Sugar Reading

Hypo: A low BG, short for hypoglycemia


Correcting: Taking insulin for a high or eating/drinking carbs for a low

Bolus: A calculation of the amount of insulin needed (deciding how much insulin a diabetic needs when they eat or correct a high)

Glucometer: A small device that uses a drop of blood to test your BG (Also commonly called a "checker")

Low: A BG below 80 (varies for different people)

High: A BG above 150 (also varies)

Lantus/Tresiba: Long acting insulin injected once a day to maintain BG between meals and at night

Humalog and/or Novalog: Fast-acting insulin taken with meals or to correct highs

Carb Ratio: The amount of units you take per amount of carbs you eat 
Ex. 12 carbs= 1 unit. 36 carbs= 3 units


MDI's: Multiple Daily Injections (a form of insulin delivery that requires a diabetic to give themselves 4-6 shots a day)
